Communication Policy

Good communication is essential to the smooth running of an efficient school. To this end Geashill National School has in place a policy on communication between the various individuals, groups and organisations connected with the school.

The teachers carry out informal meetings on a daily basis, before school, during school, after school. Written communication is also passed from class to class during the day. A staff meeting is held at the start of each term. The agenda is drawn up by the Principal in consultation with the other teachers. Relevant Circulars from the Department of education and Science are brought to the attention of the teachers.

Teachers communicate with children on an ongoing basis while teaching. However, following prayers in the morning, the principal brings any notices/announcements to the attention of the children. Notices are also written into homework notebooks or posted on the notice board on the corridor.

Board of Management

The Board of Management holds a meeting at least once per term. The agenda is set and notice of the meeting sent to each board member. Minutes are recorded. Communication to the Board is kept by the Secretary and dealt with at every meeting.

Regular contact with parents takes place, informally and formally. Letters to parents are sent out on a regular basis. We have also been communicating with parents using the TextaParent Service since early 2009. The parents can make an appointment to meet with the class teacher or principal at a time that suits all concerned. Parent/Teacher meetings are held once a year.
