Geashill N.S. Open Day 2011

Geashill National School held their annual Open Day on Tuesday, 21st June 2011 for pupils, parents, new entrants, past pupils and members of the community.

All pupils from Junior Infants to sixth class participated in an afternoon of music, dance, drama, recitations and Comhrá Gaeilge. These presentations were based on various areas of the school curriculum.

Mr. M Hyland, Principal, and Msgr. Coonan welcomed the large audience and Mr. Hyland outlined the programme for the afternoon. He also spoke about various successes the school had in competitions during the year.

Following this, each class performed a selection of music, dance, songs and poems. Parents of junior infants were enthralled to see how their children had mastered the basic steps of Rince Gaelach.

The middle and senior classes, who form the school band, played a variety of tunes on their tin whistles, Rebecca Sweeney on guitar and Megan Henchy on the Fiddle. Pupils from the middle classes accompanied their singing with percussion instruments.

John Hackett presented the football team with their runner up medals.
